Penshurst Primary School

Modeshift Platinum Award

Penshurst Primary School are proud to have been awarded the Modeshift Platinum logo and the Eco School flag award. This logo recognises the schools' achievement towards an increase in active travel modes. And to top this off, Penshurst is the first school in the local area to have ever received a Platinum Award from Modeshift!

Modeshift STARS is the Centre of Excellence for the delivery of Effective Travel Plans in Education, Business and Community settings. The scheme recognises schools, businesses and other organisations that have shown excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable active travel. Further information on Modeshift can be found here.

Throughout the year, Penshurst have created, developed and implemented a range of Effective Travel Plans to bring about a change in travel behaviour and to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicle journeys to and from school. This included The Big Walk and Wheel scheme, which the school developed to encourage their pupils to be more active and to walk, bike or scoot to school.

Furthermore, the school received the 'STARS Local Authority Primary School of the Year 2022/23' award for the East Riding of Yorkshire, which reflected the schools' amazing Modeshift STARS journey. They then went on to win the proud title of 'STARS Yorkshire and Humber Primary School of the Region 2022/23' and have been invited to London to represent their region at Modeshift's in-person National STARS School Travel Awards event that will take place in June.

We are incredibly proud of our school and can't wait to see how they get on in June!
